Job Summary:
The MQ-9 Instructor Pilot is responsible for coordinating RPA ground and flight operations including mission planning; execution; briefing and debriefing; aircrew resource management coordination; and compliance with ground and flight safety directives and procedures.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Acts as Instructor Pilot of an MQ-9 RPA in support of customer requirements.
- Defines, plans, organizes and executes complex flight profiles in a tactical environment in support of customer requirements.
- Perform duties as a mission crew member on unmanned aerospace systems.
- Employs airborne sensors in manual or computer-assisted modes to actively and/or passively acquire, track, and monitor airborne, maritime, and ground objects.
- Conducts operations and procedures in accordance with Special Instructions (SPINS), Air Tasking Orders (ATO) and Rules of Engagement (ROE).
- Coordinates and actively participates in ground and flight operations efforts including mission planning, execution and briefing, debriefing, aircrew resource management and safety.
- Ensures compliance with service guidance, company policy and procedures and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations.
- Performs administrative duties relative to training such as recordkeeping, monitoring student progress.
- Serves as aircraft type Subject Matter Expert (SME) for curriculum development, students and other personnel as required.
- Maintains a high level of subject knowledge, capability and expertise.
- Conducts briefings and debriefings and counsels with students to develop and maintain a high level of proficiency.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Supervisory Responsibilities:

Education, Experience and Certifications Required:
Minimum:
- Prior MQ-9 pilot training, specifically the United States Air Force (USAF) MQ-9 Pilot Initial Qualification Training course (IQT), USMC MQ-9 Pilot Training Course at VMUT-2, or industry equivalent MQ-9 Pilot Training Course (General Atomics-ASI, L3-Harris, Albers, etc.).
- Valid Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) First or Second-Class Airman Medical Certificate, or a current DD Form 2992 at the GFR’s discretion, reflecting the individual is medically cleared for flight duty.
- No less than 550 Pilot in Command (PIC) hours in MQ-9 aircraft (up to 50% of that MQ-9 flight time can be conducted in simulator) and no less than 25 hours of MQ-9 instructor time.
- Maintaining a DoD Security Clearance is required
- Prior DoD pilot training, specifically the USAF’s Undergraduate Pilot Training, or USA, USN, USMC, or USCG equivalent fixed wing training program
- Bachelor Degree required
or
- Initial Formal Training Upgrade (IFTU) training in the MQ-9 via the 18X pipeline or the following FAA certificate/rating: Commercial Pilot Certificate with an Airplane Category Rating and Instrument-Airplane Rating
Preferred:
- MQ-9 Instructor/Evaluator Pilot experience
- 500 MQ-9 flight hours
- Last flight within 180 days
Physical Requirements:
- Able to lift 40 pounds and carry without assistance
- CONUS travel may be required
